fol. 23v
Book two, chapter one: On the art of counterpoint
[Folio 23v starts with the second half of example 12d, which appears here at the end of fol. 23.—Tr.]
To complete the series of single note values,[^*] we will demonstrate how to make semiminims on the plainchant of proportion,[^**] and this is rather difficult for the tongue, which through practice may make itself disposed to diminution.

[^*]: [Original: “figuras sin ligadura,” literally “figures without slur or ligature,” which stands for undotted or non-syncopated notes.—Tr.]
